In 2003, a determined team of entrepreneurs, scientists, and engineers from around the world joined forces with a mission to introduce commercially viable, clean hydrogen fuel cell power. The company′s overall vision is aligned with world, national, and scientific leaders seeking to eliminate mankind′s reliance on carbon-based fuels in favor of clean, low-cost energy for all the planet′s citizens, generated from climate-friendly and renewable resources.
Adopting a global approach from the start, Horizon Fuel Cell Technologies was founded in Singapore where it established its advanced R&D laboratories, and established its consumer and industrial production facilities in Shanghai. During the past 5 years, Horizon′s team also developed localized representations in several countries around the world. Horizon recently opened a separate laboratory base in Singapore and dedicated to special projects in Aerospace and Defense.
In addition to achieving a series of technological breakthroughs throughout the fuel cell value chain, Horizon developed a comprehensive technology and manufacturing platform capable of viably introducing fuel cell technologies into early commercial markets. By following its unique approach to start commercialization with small and simple products before entering larger and more complex applications, Horizon has emerged as the world′s largest volume producer of commercial PEM fuel cell products, serving customers in over 40 countries.
The launch of the "H-racer" toy-scale fuel cell car in 2006 offered a first glimpse of the company′s unique marketing approach followed by several consumer product design awards, and a Time Magazine "Best Invention". Meanwhile on the technical front, the company started demonstrating its world-leading fuel cell performance through new world records established in NASA-funded unmanned flights powered by Horizon fuel cell systems. The wide range of capabilities has enabled the company to rapidly develop unique products with clearly defined competitive advantages over existing power or energy storage technologies, focusing on immediate to near-term commercial markets.
Today, Horizon is able to produce extremely compact, lightweight, PEM fuel cells at varying degrees of complexity and performance, as well as deliver hydrogen storage and on-site hydrogen generation solutions that are suitable for many specialty and mainstream applications, including consumer electronics, portable emergency power, stationary back-up power, aerospace systems, and clean transportation solutions.
